Need a gpu for 1440p - Page 2

Thread Starter
The issue with sli is that I won't be able to add another card later on. Coming from a laptop, I want to be able to max out games but if it is going to struggle playing any game maxed out....I have my doubts

Even with my single 7950, I can max most games in 1440p. Though if I run it at 120Hz, I have to go down to medium/low settings if I want my FPS to stay around 120.

Just to let you know, a game maxed out in 1440p looks almost the same when it's at medium or even low. While having max AA and Ultra settings is nice, there's almost no noticeable difference when you go down to High or Medium settings. You literally have to meticulously stand in place and take screenshots for the differences to be visible.

i agree with kokin. don't go crazy on MSAA. get a R9 290X. you can max all games at 1440p with MSAA 2x/ 4x. you can also go for modes like SMAA 2TX in games like crysis 3 which provide almost similar quality and better performance than MSAA 2x.

Crysis 3

btw those are at 1 ghz. the r9 290x is getting custom BIOSes with unlocked voltage. custom coolers like prolimatech mk-26 , arctic accelero extreme will alllow you to hit 1.2 ghz clocks with voltage tweaking. a single r9 290x at 1.2 ghz is definitely enough at 1440p. i would advise you to wait for custom cooler versions like asus dcii top , sapphire toxic, msi lightning. these should be available in late nov or early dec.
