Laptops with IPS screens

Thread Starter
I notice that online retailers don't usually explain what type of panel a notebook has. I'm currently shopping for a new laptop still and if possible I'd like to purchase one that has a IPS display for the viewing angles and overall quality of image. I'd guess that on many places they only place this would be listed would be in the featured specifications as a selling point rather than listed in the overall specifications, either or if they could be trusted on a retailers website. I'm guessing that only higher-end botique laptops would have this option for screen. There used to be a website http://www.prad.de/ that listed panel types for standalone displays. My main goal is to find a unit that has a decent processor, thermal design and good screen. I know of a few brands that have the technology but would like to see a better options menu for ideas on what to ultimately pick. Thx.

What kind of laptop are you looking for? Because there are several types that feature these displays.

There's the Clevo W740SU. It features a full blown i7 and the Iris Pro graphics on a 1080p IPS display.

I'm not too sure at this point whether I'm going to go for a laptop that has IPS display, two video cards for gaming or just a laptop that has neither (external IPS display) or integrated CPU/GPU.

My goal now is to be able to run certain application packages that may be processing databases often. My main concern now is thermal trip for long-term processing tj-max and whether to build a home PC. Not too sure yet just testing the waters.

Portable would be good for me b/c of the portability factor.

Well... the IPS displays are liked for their greater viewing angles primarily... which aren't terribly noticeable from side to side as thee are from above and below when compared to most TN displays. The 90% color gamut option is just as vibrant as almost any IPS display too, while being drastically cheaper and having greater response times in general.

If you're having any thoughts about power and mobility, I'd look at the Sager NP8255. They stay remarkably cool for long hours and are superbly well priced for what you get. smile.gif
