It worked! I cleaned a heatsink with an ultrasonic cleaner

Ultrasonic cleaning link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultrasonic_cleaning

This is overkill. I got a heatsink from a friend whose household has smokers in it. The heatsink was caked with dust, even between the fins, so I put it in an ultrasonic cleaner.

First, I wiped it off, rinsed it off, and then subjected it to this crazy device.

I was just very excited to use the thing. There's also an Autoclave I'd like to use along with the ultrasonic cleaner to sterilize my silverware. I might make a post about it soon if it happens.

The results I found were that the heatsink was free of even almost all the thermal compound after just 5 minutes in the cleaner. It's nice and clean and has fresh thermal compound while cooling the CPU like new. The fan I just cleaned with a napkin

Sorry, no titans. It would be cool to get a big enough cleaning unit, though. I'd toss everything in there.

I think the lungs aren't this bad after as short a time as this heatsink was in the computer at the smokers' house because the cigarettes have filters. Still, this heatsink was at the house for about a year, and it got this bad!
