1150 Motherboard.

Thread Starter
I'm about to buy a motherboard for the 4770K I bought last month.
I'm a bit of an Asus fan, and being in my price range the Maximus Hero has caught my eye.
Eventually, I plan to have two graphics cards and a sound card on this thing.
I'll be getting the H100i for the CPU. And intend to overclock it a little. What type of an overclock am I looking at?
And secondly for the price, is there anything better out there that is ATX? It's £160 here in the UK.

A Gigabyte board in the same price range?
Depends on what your priorities are (if GigaByte):
Pure OC: Gigabyte GA-Z87-OC
"Normal" usage: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD5H <= EDIT: nevermind, the soundcard will kill the SLI/CF setup (x8/x4/x4)

The Maximus VI Hero is a great board though! (I personally have a gene).

The OC will depend mostly on your CPU. With an H100, you will see 4,4-4,7GHz depending on the chip?

EDIT: The Hero is a solid choice!

The Maxiums VI Hero is a good choice. These are some good alternatives, but the Hero is really fine.

Z87X UD3H
Z87 GD65
Z87X UD4H
Z87 MPower

overclocking results will ultimately depend on the cpu and cooler, but with a good chip all these boards are capable of a 4.5-4.8ghz overclock.

One question I've got about the PCI slots, that I've never really researched.
The Hero has three PCI x16 slots.
I understand having two graphics cards, they run at x8.
Would it cause any issues having the sound card on the botttom PCI lane (runs at x4).

Struggled to word that, I consider myself pretty knowledgeable with computers, but PCI lanes is something I've never understood.

Depends on a board. Some boards run full length slots of a CPU, so they will run 8/4/4 if all populated.

Hero runs the last slot of a chipset, so first two are either 16/0 or 8/8.
