nvidia 6800 extreme

Well as some of you know who have been replying to my posts my grandpa gave me his extra 6800 extreme. What do you guys think about this card along with a lanparty expert board? Also is the card refered to as the 6800xt? or is this a totally different card? Also hows the stock cooler? I was thinking of a zalman vf900 for it. How high do you guys think this card will overclock? Hopefully I can get a good overclock with this board with my 3400+ and my crappy RAM.

Well he wanted to run 2 of them at the same time with his Asus An8-E, but it wouldn't work because it didn't 2 PCIe *16 slots, so it has been sitting in his computer room in not even opened for a long time. He really nice and infact he was the one who got me addicted to computers. He gave me most of my rig right now, the proc, mobo, dvd drive, hard drives, cooler, GPU, case, he also gave me a coolmax 450 watt, that I soon decided I didn't want for overclocking so I got the one in my sig for christmas. And since then I have been slowly adding on and learning more, but I still have a whole lot more. Looking on that DFI street, dang, gobs of stuff I don't understand and will have to learn! But that was what it was like when I came here.

thehybridpyro- ahh vista, when is it suppose to come out? It has to do better than mine overclocked in games! Same amount of RAM, but a heck of a lot faster and a faster proc.

A question, what would be temp that I should start worrying about the card overheating? Thanks guys

Jacob

i wish my grandpa was into computers haha he's so worried about breaking them that he won't let my grandma open or send any e-mail without his help. he needs to take a class...

as for the temps you should just try keep it under 80 degrees celcious (although i have heard 90 also but i like bieng on the safe side)

Your grandpa sounds cool!

The 6800xt is a great little card. Its the budget line on of the 6800's but that doesnt mean its no good. It overclocks pretty well from what ive seen. Around 515+ on the core... Definately get better cooling. Stock cooling on them sucks.Go with a vf-700 or 900.

Yeah, he really cool, and knows a good bit more about computers than many other grandpa's know about computers. About cooling, my mom wouldn't let me order the vf900 along with the new board in my sig, so I will have to do with stock cooling and just add a 70mm fan on it that came off of my old heatsink. The fan is pretty fast and I think the fan upgrade along with replacing the thermal paste should get me in the good temps! He said he would get it to me before I get my mobo, so it should be here soon! later guys
