Also, have you ever thought what would happen to your public life if you were (wrongly) deemed to be a child molester? The consequences something like that might carry with it?

Re-tweeting means re-posting something, to make it available to other people. By re-tweeting something about another person, you risk yourself any legal consequence that it might carry. Its only logic and natural.

The tweet falsely claimed the person was a pedo - and then it was retweeted and the lie was spread. This is slander plain and simple, and those who retweeted it, and were fined, should have thought twice before doing so.

As for people saying the accused child molester shouldn't be targeting 20 people, but just the original tweeter or all of them. Its not that simple. You cannot track down and sue 10,000 people. And suing just the original does nothing. Its like only arresting the murderer in a mob full of people that attacked someone. All 10,000 people committed the crime.

I feel like either only the original author should be fined, or everyone that retweeted it be fined. Picking and choosing who to fine, to me, shows a justice that isn't blind.

A wrongful accusation of something so terrible can end your career. If you were a teacher and some snotty kids decide to tweet something like this even if its wrong could end your career in the field.

It's libel and slander and EVERYONE who retweeted it should be fined. When you have a bullhorn that is heard by hundreds or thousands of people you have taken on the burden of having to be responsible about what you say. We're going to see more stuff like this happening as people get more out of hand with accusations on the internet. I say good! Tired of people running their mouths all the time with no consequences.
