Need a CPU to max GTA4

Thread Starter
Right now I have an i3-550, and it's terrible for GTA4.

At 1080p my CPU is the bottleneck, won't even get to 30 fps on the streets.

How many cores can GTA4 utilize?

What CPU can give me 60fps in GTA4 without breaking the bank?

I'm mainly interested in cheap socket 1156 or 1155 CPUs.

HD 7850 under clocked to 777mhz. GPU usage is around 60%.

is that i3 overclocked? Because my old i3 540 ate GTA4 for breakfast at 4ghz with a HD7950.

My old roommate could make it out with a Q9550 @ 4.1Ghz and his 7970.

My i3 is stock at 3.2Ghz. Mobo does not support any form of OC.

HT on or off does not make a difference.

For GTA IV its better to have 4 Cores on 5,0Ghz then 6 Cores on 4.0Ghz

Its more of a console port that only really utlizes 1 to 3 Cores, so getting High Clocked Cores are better in this game then a 6 Core with lower clocks.

So buying a cheap 2500k with a cheap air cooler, probably gives you from 4.6g to 4.9ghz and will be optimal for this game
