£1,200 build advice/UK - US customs advice

Hello there, Overclockers.

I'm due for a hardware upgrade next year (December 19th). I haven't kept up with hardware for quite a while, so I would greatly appreciate it if someone overviews my build in its current state and alter it. My computer consists of a HP Pavilion G6 with an AMD A8 CPU. Here's my current basket in Amazon.

As you can see, I have gone over budget slightly; that's why I'm creating this thread biggrin.gif

Use: Heavy gaming (4 hour long sessions of BF4), heavy 3D modelling (studying game design), heavy multitasking (3ds Max, ZBrush, Marmoset Toolbag, CryENGINE3, Photoshop , 30 Chrome tabs, Skype and Word all at the same time).

Budget: Excluding keyboard + mouse, £1,200

Time of purchase: December 29th

Specific Brand choice: none

Additional components required: USB microphone for Youtube and headphones. Please do not suggest a headset combo; they are horribly overpriced compared to buying separate. Then again, I'm not really familiar with audio.

EDIT: Someone has cleared this up with me; this method is very much illegal. (Click to show)
I have another query that's been bugging me. As you all know, US component prices are tons cheaper than the UK/Europe equivalents due to the various TAX and Customs charges. I have a couple of 'links' in the US that run hardware stores. They can send components over to me in the UK and they are willing to put 'gift' stamps on the packages. What I've been told is that my country's customs won't charge me due to the packages being gifts. Can anyone find any defects to my system? Other than shipping charges, what other costs can I expect to pay? If this works, I could theoretically get my components for 20% less! Also, is this entirely legal?

Thanks for reading, hope someone can help.

Ordering parts overseas and having them marked as "gifts" to avoid import duties constitutes tax fraud, and is very much illegal. If you get caught, the items will be confiscated, and depending on the scale of the offense you will incur fines and/or jail time. I wouldn't do it.

Do you have a special use for the microphone you've chosen?

Other than that, looks pretty good.

This is true. smile.gif

About the customs things, you technically could (hell, I've done it before with used parts being marked as gifts), but the problem is you can't insure gifts (iirc), or you can only insure them for a certain amount (normally if the value is listed as over $30 you'll get charged import fees on our end), so if it gets lost or stolen the party in the US is out of pocket, which is potentially bad news for you. It's also not entirely legitimate, not sure where it stands on legality, but I wouldn't do it.

Thanks, I haven't got a single clue when it comes to PSUs. Do you mind recommending me a model?

About the microphone: I would like to start making Youtube tutorials. Also, I want a really nice microphone for Skype interviews; It feels really unprofessional using my webcam.

Regarding the customs: Someone has suggested that my vendor should open the new product, make it looked used (scuff up the manuals), then ridiculously depreciate the value so I don't get destroyed in the customs office. Unless TTL works at my customs office and decides to inspect my package, it should theoretically work. I'll contact my vendor and update the thread smile.gif

Thanks everyone.

Just one - either a 280x, 780, 780ti or r9 290/x. Depends on my finance at the time of purchase.
