Seen a few varying opinions on whether a corsair tx850w psu is enough to power crossfired 290x's or even 780's sli'd. I'm talking no bios mods, slight overclock via afterburner with power limit set to max and going as high as you can stable in afterburner. Thought i would get a few more opinions here..

Personally, I think 850w for CF 290X's is going to be restrictive in terms of OC'ing. Increasing voltage really ups the power requirements, and there's no voltage restrictions on the 290X. I know a lot of people will say 850w for SLI 780's is enough (especially when you consider max voltage w/o mods, gaming loads, and 80+ efficiency) but I'd go for a 1000w PSU for 290X's

This is a bit of a noob question, but upping the power limit in afterburner to +20% isn't considered upping the voltage is it?

Depends on what CPU and overclock your running?

If your fully stressing the cpu and gpus with prime/furmark then youll be cutting it close. But in gaming and gpu only folding youll be fine.

My 2X 7970 work with 1.1ghz overclock with my 8350 overclocked on a 620W pulling 558W under 3D mark and 493W in BF4.
Hashing on them only pulls 505W at the wall.

furmark on the other hand pulls 611W and prime pulls 386W, So I doubt I would be able to run both at the same time with out hitting OCP.

I'm not crazy-familiar with AB yet, but my understanding is that Power Limit % determines how much of the voltage (that you set elsewhere) is allowed to the GPU.

EG: if you set the voltage to the GPU @ 1.00v (again, I believe you set this outside of AB), and in AB you set Power Limit to 120%, then the GPU can use up-to 1.20volts.

Just to add, I believe the stock voltage for the 290X is 1.25v
