Installation guide/tips of REV.2 Icy Vision on R9 290X - Page 15

PROBLEM SOLVED

I removed the cooler, cleaned the entire card with akasa TIM using a toothbrush, stroking in a circular motion. Re-installed the Icy Vision 2 and it works!

Both cards are mining with a max VRM temp of 116(goes up and down 113-116) and a GPU core temp of 74. Looks like this is the best i can get without further modding. At least it isn't so noisy now! I'll take the higher temps and risk over that horrible space heater/dust blower any day.

Thanks

Great. But vrm temp is a little high. It's vrm1 temp?

In that case, if you are running stock, you could try a little undervolt to lower down vrm1 temp.

116C is a bit high (even though theyre probably rated for 125C+) - you might want to downclock/lower voltages/add another "sideways" fan. If youre brave, and dont mind that you wont be able to reverse it - you can try using thermal glue.

I belive its 2.5 slots for gpu + gelid - the fans are really low profile.

not much you can do with half a slot, its effectively 3

i have this board:
http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3010#ov

will it fit with dual 290 with this cooler and motherboard? will be enough space for air to go inside the fans?

can I change the fans that I want and put it in there?

You should be fine, but it look like the only PCIe slot you will have open will be the x1 next to the cpu.

The shroud and the fan casings are one molded piece, so you wont be able to change the fans without choppping up the shroud and jury rigging something.

They are very low profile and have good air flow, so i dont see much of a need to change them anyway.

okay, do I need to buy anything else except the aftermarket cooler? do I need to buy vrm heatsink or not? so there is good air flow around it when I put it on the gpu.
