Cmon 290x is so flawed, people can't seem to look beyond the price tag and how it beats 780 at 4k. thats all it has going over 780. Its better at 4k, and price, but considering the 290X requires a water block, there goes your 100 bucks.
Almost every reference card is limited by a reference cooler when it comes to pushing the card past stock specs. AMD had engineered that card to run at almost 100*C for its life, it was made to be that way. Better drivers depend on what you're doing in your case, I'm running two 7970's in CrossFire and I have honestly never had a single problem, even if I have them hooked up to multiple monitors.
The 290X isn't flawed. Compared to the Titan (which is nearly $500 more) with it's gimped design for VRM's and nVidia not allowing anyone to make a different cooler (with the exception of the ACX cooler from EVGA, which is still separate), the 290X is looking pretty damn good. Oh, plus it's cheaper than a 780, has a whole gig of memory, and a wider bus.
As well, I'm willing to bet the custom coolers are going to be not too much more expensive than a reference 290X, so you'll still have higher performance for probably $50 less than the price tag of the 780.
Let's be reasonable in our arguments please. By all means, keep trying to use certain benchmarks to help your case, but the rest of us will remain logical in our arguments.
