Corsair PROMO ICs are weird..

Thread Starter
i have a pair of Corsair PC2-6400 (2 x 512MB) v2.1 with promo ICs. i was about to put them up on ebay but before i did i wanted to try something. i went into my BIOS and changed the vdimm to 2.4v and put the memory setting to ddr2-1000. i exited the bios, rebooted, and what do you know...i was in windows.

i was struggling to get my system stable at high FSBs because my RAM wouldnt be stable anywhere near 900MHz. and yet, its rock stable at 1000Mhz on a 4:5 divider (FSB: DRAM). pretty much everyone with the v2.1 corsairs cant go any higher than 900mhz. why is it that i can run 1000mhz but not 900mhz? no matter how high my voltages are i couldnt run 1:1 around 900mhz.

current settings on P5W DH DLX/E6600:
CPU Freq (FSB): 400
DDR FReq: DDR2 1000MHz
Performance Mode: Auto
PCI-Ex: 100
PCI: 33.33mhz
vcore: 1.4325v
vdimm: 2.4v
FSB Termination: 1.5v
vMCH: 1.85v
vICH: 1.05v

CPU-Z Validation

this is just something i wanted to share with all you other people that hate corsair now because the chips arent D9s (after i did my research and found out i wasnt able to OC to high clocks i was pissed too).

Sometimes boards are picky with the divider and some dividers will go stable much higher than others. As for the promos I guess you were just lucky and got some good promos.
