Bought two (used) cards for the same price. Let's bench! (GTS 250 VS HD4890)

First off, I know that the 4890 is a good chunk faster than the 250 in terms of (raw) power. However, I had bought a used GTS 250 for $38 (my 5750 blew out). Came across an XFX HD4890 for $38 as well! So I thought I'd do a round of benches to see how much life each card has in them. smile.gif

CHART AT THE END OF THE POST

Using the latest 333.60 drivers for the GTS 250.

The HD 4890 is running on ancient Catalyst 11.9 drivers. Why? Because the legacy drivers are crap and reduces performance vastly. mad.gif

RESOLUTION: 1366x768 (max my monitor can support)

PROCESSOR: AMD Phenom II X4 B45 @ 3.57Ghz

GAMES: Tomb Raider, Batman Arkham City + Origins, Mafia II, Metro Last Light, Grid 2, Resident Evil 6 bench, Final Fantasy XIV bench.

First up, the GTS 250:

Clocks - 780/1000 (stock - 675/900)

ARKHAM CITY:

Settings - extreme, FXAA, PhysX off.

ARKHAM ORIGINS:

Settings - maxed out, AA and PhysX off.

METRO LAST LIGHT:

Settings - high, SSAO and PhysX off.

FINAL FANTASY XIV:

Settings - maximum

GRID 2:

Settings - Ultra, 2xMSAA

TOMB RAIDER:

Settings - high, FXAA, TressFX off

RESIDENT EVIL 6 BENCH:

Settings - maxed out

MAFIA II:

Settings - maxed out, PhysX off

And now, the HD4890 biggrin.gif

SETTINGS - SAME AS THE GTS 250

Clocks - 900/975 (stock - 850/975)

So...

GAME GTS 250 HD 4890

BM Arkham City - 85 FPS 95 FPS

BM Arkham Origins - 98 FPS 133 FPS

Metro Last Light - 21 FPS 33 FPS

Grid 2 - 34 FPS 46 FPS

Mafia 2 - 68.5 FPS 74.4 FPS

Tomb Raider- 49 FPS 49 FPS biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

Resident Evil 6 bench - 4317 6634

Final Fantasy XIV bench - 3356 5241

Nice to know both these cards can pull off good performance at 720p gaming smile.gif. Wish AMD had better drivers which could unleash the full potential of the Radeon 4890. So a difference of around 12fps on an average between the cards. Nice thumb.gif
