We are talking about an FPS here aren't we?

But as others have pointed out, the XBOX360 controller works out of the box for almost every game. The PS3 controller will work but you'll need a Bluetooth receiver and some drivers.

MotionInJoy:http://www.motioninjoy.com/
Xinput PS3 Wrapper: http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-XInput-Wrapper-for-DS3-and-Play-com-USB-Dual-DS2-Controller

Personally would recommend the XInput PS3 Wrapper, since I don't like how MotionInJoy works(with ads and online stuff in the background). The Xinput Wrapper keeps things simple, although it's a bit more difficult to install.

Thank GOD you put the Xinput in there... If you know MotionInJoy is TRASH and junkware and destroys registries, why even recommend it?

OP, ignore the MotionInJoy one at all cost. Use the Xinput wrapper instead. That's how I game with my PS3 controller on PC. But I have to agree it's definitely keyboard and mouse for quick reaction games like FPSes, and MMOs obviously.

Xinput just works, as you don't need to launch a program or anything after ONE installation. After that, your PS3 controller just becomes plug and play, as opposed to a certain junk MotionInJoy that needs relaunching, and needs internet connection, and has ads, and loses hooks to the controller all the time... And can't just do a normal uninstall and mess up your future USB devices (some) unless you reset a lot of things.

Well it is trash, but some of my mates preferred using it as they couldn't sort out the XInput driver. The MotionInJoy is crap but like I said easier to install. I knew it was a shady piece of software, but it worked for them. Didn't realize it destroyed registries as well. :O

I've been using PS3 controller on my PC for games like GTA IV, ACIII for over a year.

Download MotioninJoy, hook up the ps3 controller via USB, install the driver.

I tried different bluetooth dongles but could not get it to work wirelessly though.

I just bought Logitech F710 getting it tommorow. Borrowed one from a friend and it worked great so I bought one.

Also I had a Microsoft Wireless controller for PC, but after finishing GTA IV back in 09, one button stopped working, the controller was less than 1 year old.

ok thanks guys, i'll try the mouse/kb, if that doesn't work i'll just grab a 360 controller. I see pc gaming is serious business biggrin.gif. And i'll check out that xinput wrapper. I built this pc for business
just never really considered using it for gaming.. but some people swear by it, so i figured i'll check out pc gaming and see what happens.

Maybe I worded it wrong about registries. But after uninstalling programs it did render some generic mice and other USB devices useless, until I had to do something to each ports in Hardware Manager or something to get it fixed. The program leaves many unwanted mark here and there in the OS, sometimes deeper than you'd want.

As for Xinput... It was a simple "Extract> Create Folder> Install in folder> restart" AFTER installing Microsoft's own 360 driver for me and all worked fine from there. I was struggling the first time as I had forgotten about MS's driver. Maybe that's what your mates need to do as well. I dunno. Once it's installed, it's non-intrusive, and runs in the background without you even knowing, and plug & play like a dream.

I have unending hatred towards how MIJ is programmed and "works", even more so on how on some forums here and there that it's STILL being recommended by quite a few people. Those poor souls who listen to those advice. :/

I think it's down to the fact that MiJ is publicized a lot more than the Xinput Wrapper(which is posted on the PCSX2 Thread). It would help if the author had a proper website for it. smile.gif

Sorry for the OT. tongue.gif

If you really want to use a controller, I would get this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104402 Has an XInput switch on the back so it works natively as a 360 controller, alternatively it has direct input which you can assign the button to anything you want.
