Can any normal TIM be used on the die or is there a specific kind of TIM we need to use?

I've actually mixed and match mine. Like noctua in between the die and lid, tuniq tx-4 or artic silver for heat sink and lid.
The only Tim I don't recommend using on the die itself is IC diamond because it risks scratching the die because of the syntethic "diamonds"

Thats because best results are achieved when using clu or clp, my fidst delid I didnt and only dropped 10c after I applied clp I dropped 15c over that ill take a 25c drop over 10c drop anyday, do yourself a favor and order clu or clp

I prefer CLU, easier to spread on the die. mx-4 or whatever tim between IHS and cooler. thumb.gif
post #7 of 9
I prefer Diamond compound
On the die, go CLU.

Liquid metal or nothing (on the die). I used regular tim at first (noctua paste, great paste, just doesn't work on the die) and I got some temps drop, about 5c, nothing too impressive, and after a couple of weeks the temps went UP. Like 10c higher than pre-delid. Be very careful. That's my experience, maybe some people got regular tim to work but I personally I do not recommend it!
