290X OC'd vs GTX 780 OC'd - any benchmarks? - Page 2

If you can get 780 classi is a good deal. Here they cost close to 700 against 450 of the 290x. So based on the price get the cheaper card. Both cards do well under water so after this is just a personal choice. I would say that 290x is faster clock to clock but still we are not sure about the max clocks under water until we get proper voltage control. But i would not choose a ref 780

The clock speeds are listed on the OCN bench off thread, take other reviews with a grain of salt, you don't know what those 780s are boosting to. Basically, the 780 and 290X are equal performance clock for clock.

From your first link, it shows the OC'd Radeon R9 290X with a Fire Strike rating of 10,601.

Compare that to multiple GTX 780 entries in the 11,893 range for the same test ...

http://www.3dmark.com/fs/894744

And some even in the 12,000.

http://www.3dmark.com/fs/894760

But yeah, more R9 290X tests are needed. No matter what, R9 290X or GTX 780, as long as you go water cooled, they are BOTH going to be great overclockers. It pretty much comes down to about 1-2% difference in speed, price, availability, power draw, and free games.

The r9 290x was not tested under water so dont make rushed impressions. and a single fire Strike score does not detriment a cards power.

for watercooling the R9 290X is the better card. OP the R9 290X at 1200 - 1250 mhz can outrun a 1350 - 1400 mhz GTX 780. moreover AMD is not done. the R9 290 launch is delayed because of a new performance driver. There is a good chance that R9 290X will also get performance improvements as they are both based on the same chip and architecture with only 4 CU(256 sp) being disabled on R9 290. so wait till nov 5th and decide.

http://www.techpowerup.com/193497/radeon-r9-290-non-x-launch-pushed-back-a-week.html

gibbo of ocuk benched a R9 290 (1200 mhz) and it beat a GTX 780(1310 mhz) . you can read their forums if you want and ask around.

I'm thinking about that as well, so at the moment I'm gonna wait, got a 8800GTX while my 2 7970 go to RMA frown.gif BF4 at 800*600! OLD SCHOOL! The 2 Koolance blocks i have for the 7970's are my biggest concern. Oh well ebay with them. And then Ebay with the 7970 if the store doesnt give me credit.

Good job. Titan trails the 290X in top 3dmark scores. Looking forward to seeing what clocks you can get thumb.gif

Typical. Benchmarks only count as long as your favorite card wins.

Bye the way, I didn't say the 290x sucks and I don't think the 290x sucks. It's a great card but the 780 is no slouch either.

I find it very interesting that you were talking about putting a bid on a Titan only a week ago. Now somehow you've owned one, had enough time to test it properly and sold it to but a 290x.

Cool story bro indeed.

Pretty much your Titan ownership is just made up so you can bash Nvidia in every thread. Where's the proof of owning one? Show us.

And even if it's not, your non-stop Nvidia bashing from thread to thread to thread is childish and immature.

Can someone point me to any thread on OCN (not hard modded, tess off, HWBot) where any 290x is beating a Titan in 3d Mark, Firestrike Heaven or Valley?
I checked all top 30 threads for each, and it wasn't there?
