OC'd Opty 170 Reboot Problem

Thread Starter
KK, So I finally got around to overclocking my CPU. This is my second processor and board combo to OC on and at the risk of being ridiculed as a noob I have a question. Is it common that after you overclock a system and it is either left on for a few days and not rebooted or left off for a few days to need to reset the cmos in order to get it to boot? and, in the process have to reset all the customized bios settings? This did happen twice with my former setup but only after being turned off and not used for about 3 weeks (went home for holidays). Is this common? Did I do something wrong? and, is there any way to prevent it? All feedback is beyond appreciated. Thx guys.

Well, I just got back home after six weeks at work and when I turned my pc on it had trouble booting.

It did a false start first, pressed power button and it turned on for a second then when quiet, then started normally.

Also, my graphics card would artifact in 3DMark.

But its ok now and I didn't have to clear CMOS, it just went back to normal

I had the same thing happen. Went on a trip for only 3 days, came back and tried to turn on my PC, nothing. Turned power off and on, and that turned it on, but died right after. I was so scared I had fried something. I did, however, unplug it completely from the wall socket, which may have had something to do with it, not sure.

I would be interested to know what causes this and how to prevent it, so bump!

Never heard of it. The only thing I can think of is a change in ambient temps resulting in your CPU getting a little too hot.

My Ambient Temps are sitting between 33c-36c. But I will take a look at it. Could it be an unstable Overclock? As far as stability i'm 18 hrs S&M Stress Test 100% load stable on top of burned in for an additional 20 hrs with max temps bordering on 60c. As well as 12 hrs WoW tested (long raid). This is honeslty the only problem i've encountered. Occasionally, it will boot up on the first try but then regardless of how long i keep it on I will get a blank screen and it will just freeze before posting.

Honestly, I was leaning towards it being the board. The last two boards i've had have been the asus a8n sli series; And they have been by far, the pickiest most touch and go boards i've ever owned. It's just really frustrating to have to step the timings and voltages back up after it happens.

Glad to know i'm not the only one with the problem.
