Another file that has been linked to on AnonNews.org this weekend has also been lifted by Krebs and Holden from the attackers' servers, but they were unable to crack the encryption. This recently published version was unencrypted, and seemingly contains source code for Adobe's popular Photoshop software.

Adobe has confirmed that "a portion of Photoshop source code was accessed by the attackers as part of the incident Adobe publicly disclosed on Oct. 3." They have asked the site hosting the file (to which AnonNews.org linked to) to take down the files and the site admins have complied.

So now, the question is twofold.

1. How many users and sites still have those source files?

2. What's about to go down in the next 3 months? 0_0

Hmm, it was quite likely to happen though eventually

Nothing is going to happen, except maybe some people will learn from the source code. If someone used that code to create a Photoshop clone it'd be noticed pretty quickly and subject to lawsuit after lawsuit

Something tells me people willing to hack into Adobe's servers and steal credit card info + confidential files aren't too afraid of lawsuits. tongue.gif

This. While it is a mild "clone" concern for Adobe, it means nothing else. The bigger issue is the security hole that allowed this to happen and their customer information stolen.

Credit card information can be sold and used in bulk with ease; the attackers don't bring attention to themselves.
They won't be building a photoshop clone, because that will draw attention to themselves.
Rival software dev houses could get a hold of the code, but they can't use it because they'd face infringement lawsuits. They can, however, learn from it and use it to build something to compete, but they can't use any of Adobe's code.
So that leaves piracy teams - having access to the source code may make it easier to bypass authentication; but given the extent to which Photoshop is already pirated and how quickly the cracks are released after the newest version goes on market, in addition to the fact that Adobe is trying to shift its revenue model to subscription services, it's fairly insignificant.

The worst damage from this is PR. And compromising 38 million accounts, of course.

My thoughts exactly

Although it will most likely be sold off, how awesome would it be if it was donated to Gimp wink.gif

What he means is that they can't make a real clone for commercial purposes with the source code as it will quickly be removed and the host company/creator sued. So they can't run any legal operations with this. And if they wanted to make a free Photoshop clone, it's pointless when they could just pirate the real thing? rolleyes.gif

Adobe already screwed them selves, just look at Adobe sells the last 10 years.

Adobe doesnt give a darn about keeping customers, I dont see Adobe hanging on too much longer, and prob sellout!

Baa Baa goes the sheep(s)!!
