List of GPU Power Supply Requirements

hey guys i found this on a search for the amp requirements of my GPU, so i thought id share, and of course i give all credit for this post to the original poster.


The following are the minimum power requirements using a PSU with a single +12V rail. Also these requirements are for a system containing basic components (unless otherwise noted). The more add in cards and hard drives that a system has, the more amperage draw on the 12v rail.

Everyone, please keep in mind that these PSU requirements are for peak-rated PSUs. Multiply the +12V amperage by 12 (because it's 12V power) to see what they're actually recommending.

 

For example, I'll just use the very first one listed: 38A is 456W, yet they're recommending a 600W PSU. Well, the 460W SeaSonic Fanless Platinum Series has a +12V capacity of 38A: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151099. It's also the same +12V capacity of the 550W Rosewill HIVE Series PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182131. So, the 600W recommendation is for peak-rated 600W PSUs.

 

Now, take the next one: 42A, with a 600W PSU recommendation again. 42A is 504W, which is the same +12V capacity of a few decent 550W PSUs. Most of the best 550W PSUs have a +12V capacity of at least 540W.

 

So, these are the "worst-case scenario" type of requirements. Always ask us here on OCN first (make a new thread) to see what your actual power consumption would be with your system.

A10 6800K + H60 but I'm strongly considering switching to a Noctua
ITX Mobo
GTX 480 + H60
2x 4gb 2133 ram
3x 1tb hdd
1x 60gb SSD
1x Blu-Ray drive

All of this can't go onto a 500W psu can it? I presently have it in dual graphics with a 7750 but I'm thinking about transferring the 480 from my desktop to the HTPC. Wouldn't overclock the 480, but I am enjoying tinkering around and overclocking the 6800k

Really good idea for a thread, surprised I haven't seen this before.

I just realized that I don't know how much power the 6800K consumes when overclocked, but if it averages out to be at like 150W, then it might be ok, but still pretty close.
