Steam is pretty friggin' big: the folks at Valve just announced that their digital distribution network now has 65 million accounts. For comparison, Xbox Live has 48 million.

PC Gaming is far from dead as most of us know. It is amazing the amount of people Valve has been able to bring to the platform. I know it is mostly because they cornered the market on digital downloads. However, as someone who has used Steam since the beginning, I can honestly say it has improved and grown beyond what I had imagined back in 2004.

Let say everyone bought at least 1 game, even a $10. that's $650 000 000 and yet, NO HL3 ?

Devs create games to make money. Valve already has money, so there's no motivation to make games.

I have no clue why you are saying this, capitalism is always wanting more.
They have money, yes, they sure want more.

I'm pretty sure they aren't saying oh we have money, lets not make more.

But who really knows, you could very well be right.

Keeping on track though, that's a lot of steam accounts.

What the real info doesn't say though is how many are active, what the average spent per account is, and how many are unique (aka 1 person having multiple accounts)

I don't think it's possible to have a thread about Valve where HL3 isn't brought up.

Anywho, I wonder how many of those accounts are active.

Or how many are from people doing like I do with Origin...I have a separate account for each game I buy there...with one account with about eight games from when they had that mix up and people were getting free games that they officially honored afterwards. This way if I ever do something to accidentally get banned I will not lose all my Origin games. There was a time that they were a little happy with the ban hammer. I think it is better now days though and I could probably stop, but I got a good system setup now.

Though even with duplicated accounts...that is still a staggering number.

Not surprising the number of accounts created over the years. I've had my Steam account since 2004.

Yep, mine has been around since forever... It even has an old email address I can't use.

Yep, that too.

I'm personally not that worried something will happen. I did have an incident once before where my account was "compromised" due to a security issue with Steam, but I was able to get my account back with a bank statement providing proof of a purchase. I really don't do anything that could risk getting my accounts banned and even when EA was a little too eager with the ban-hammer, there were still reasons for people getting banned.. just not very good ones.
