[Kotaku] There Are Now 65 Million Steam Accounts - Page 6

Well, it isn't as black and white as that. We don't know how many of these people have a Steam account and then only play games like Zuma or some crud. I don't consider those people PC "gamers". The same way I don't consider all the people that bought a PS3 for the Bluray player to be console gamers.

Though I feel that PC gaming in general is thriving...but it is mainly focused on casual type games that people got hooked on in Facebook. The real games...in other words big budget 3D games...were kind of slipping a little bit there for a few years. There were getting to be more console exclusive AAA games and PC exclusive AAA games are getting very rare. PC gaming only gets a portion of the games that consoles get, but I think it was a decently large portion of them...though there has been some gems that we've missed out on. I was always hoping for a PC version of Red Dead Redemption for example.

However, all that I just wrote I think is fading away with the next generation of consoles. Most of the future game release plans seem to be on PC...perhaps only Xbox and PC or PS3 and PC...but PC looks like it will be included on a lot of games. Though these games are not released yet and a lot could change yet.

If every member of steam united into an army we could overthrow all the worlds governments!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ROAR!

Really though I think this is great. There is nothing more in life that I love to do than poke around Steam and adjust computer settings on my days off to relax. To me it is like therapy. I think you all would agree. I also have the same problem that now I actually have money and a entire list of games to play on steam, I just don't have enough time to burn through them all! Still need to beat all the Metro LL dlcs! and borderlans 2, well and all those random steam sale games I bagged...

Devs create games to make money. Valve already has money, so there's no motivation to make games.

That might just be the most foolish statement I've ever read on OCN.

No that is actually pretty spot on...Valve has even publicly stated that people don't work on games around the office unless they want to. If Valve releases a game these days it is more because they are bored or are feeling the urge to create something.

As for HL3, I am sure one wants to touch that since they could make the best work of art ever and it probably would not live up to the hype and people would moan and groan. I am honestly not sure what the deal is with left 4 dead...some one at Valve must have a zombie fetish since they seem to like making games in that series.

Then it's not a lack of motivation from not caring to make money, it's the lack of motivation overall.

Half-Life 3 is one of those things you just have to have faith in. While it would be quite absurd for them to not be working on it, we don't have any solid evidence that it's being made, so you just have to be content with your own opinion. To my knowledge, the lead writer for the Half-Life series, Marc Laidlaw, is still employed at Valve, so I myself believe that Half-Life 3 has been in the works for quite some time, and might continue to take time. My guess is that we'll see something Half-Life related in November of 2014, on the one year anniversary of Half-Life 2.
