Question regarding an upgrade

My current rig was never extremely powerful, but it's becoming more and more outdated every day. It's an A8-3870k APU with a radeon HD7850(2gb) with 8gb of memory. I am looking to upgrade for battlefield 4, and all the new games coming out (I want to max them out.) I know this will be a difficult task with the APU. I was thinking of getting a GTX 770 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125462) Will this boost my framerates significantly or will the CPU bottleneck be too bad? I will be upgrading to an 3770k later, so will that give me better framerates than the card will? Basically which option would give me better results. Thanks!

How many frames do you get?

CPU if you upgrade may give you better gameplay I'm taking it you have an FM2 mobo look into getting the Athlon 760K Black Edition its the best CPU on the FM2 platform I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong

I would be upgrading to a higher end Intel cpu (3770k) along with a new motherboard.

I get ~30fps in BF4 beta on high settings at 720p but I'm looking for over 60fps at Ultra at 1080. In BF3, however, I get over 60 on high/ultra at 1080p.

Well the ram won't make any difference and the graphics card other people with the same card get around 40-50 FPS however you could overclock your GPU and CPU for a small performance increase?

Wait to see if you have a problem in BF4 & what it is. It's conceivable that you could have problems on the GPU front, the CPU front, or none.

I am pretty sure getting a better gpu now will give you more fps than upgrading your cpu.
And since you will be getting 3770k anyways, my suggestion is to upgrade gpu.

@Deathclaw

That depends. For instance in BF3, he'd get a better increase by upgrading the CPU if he played large multiplayer maps most of the time. If he played singleplayer all the time, the GPU would be a better increase. It's always important to know your goal. With BF4, we don't know if multiplayer will be as CPU demanding as BF3 was so far, so there's really no way of giving reliable information of what is going to be the better buy for the OP's situation.

MisterFred

first of all, he said he will be upgrading the cpu anyways later down the road if not now
second, it also depends if he for example means to play low detail or high detail
low detail - cpu bottleneck
high detail - gpu bottleneck

i'll take the liberty of assuming he aims for higher details biggrin.gif
as is, gpu would reap greater benefit

also quick googling shows for bf4 beta:
differences between cpu's with same gpu
differences between gpu's with same cpu

so yeah, he can actually keep the gtx 770 if he gets it now and use it with more powerfull cpu

please don't be ofended by my post i usually use a bit of sarcasm from time to time in order to amuse people wink.gif

edit:
oh, yeah, on another review site (techspot) they tested single player and cpu performance difference is virtually non existent on any 4 or more core processor
