2.5K Gaming Rig Ordered!

Thread Starter
JUST ORDERED!!!

Well it has been two years since I last owned a desktop computer. My last desktop was a microATX build revolving around a i5 2500k. That was one sweet cheap at the time/the one I had overclocked great as well. But after trying to fight the itch and finally admitting to myself that I can't kill a fly on a controller I've decided to build another desktop for gaming. The main purpose of my computer will be to play video games, school work, coding and watching movies. My current budget is between $1,500 - $2,000 not including a future water cooling setup and peripherals (need monitor, keyboard, mouse( leaning towards a Logitech G700s)). Right now I am leaning towards the Intel 2011 socket CPU's, more specifically the i7-4820k. But at the same time I didn't post this thread to turn down suggestions. I welcome any all advice just DO NOT tell me to go AMD for a CPU. One last thing I would like to add is that in December I will be adding a custom water cooling setup and I would like for this computer to overclock very well.

After all the suggestions and input this is what I ended up ordering....

My New PC:
Case: Corsair Carbide Series A540
CPU: Intel Core i7 4770K
MOBO: ASUS Maximus VI Formula
GPU: 2x ASUS R290X
SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256
RAM: G.Skill Trident X Series 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 2666
PSU: SeaSonic Platinum 860W

What I still need:
1) Watercooling setup
2) Mouse (Need to order)
3) Monitor (Can't decide/Can't find a deal on a 27")
4) Mechanical Keyboard
5) More Hours at work!!!

How about a Cooler Master V850 watts for that system?

if you want to order tonight you should consider gtx 780 instead of amd r9 270x (the one linket if i'm not mistaken) because with you'r budget for a gaming rig a low end/mainstream card would be ridiculous (even in x-fire). i'm pretty sure the preformance diffrance between i7 4770k andd 4820 is rather negligible atleast in gaming so going with the cheaper might be a good idea, atleast if your taking from gpu budget. for ssd samsung evo disks are great and rather cheap. instead of geting two you could take the 500gb as it would be rather equal in price i belive. as for PSU a 850 would be a good idea for ugradeability and WC. i would recomend either a corsair RM or AX as they are great PSUs and silent.

personaly i'd get a 1440p monitor either asus/dell or a korean if possibole. g710+ keyboard is great and if you get the g700 you get them under the same software. damn that got long =D

Cooler Master V is the same PSU as the AX760/860 just cheaper

The Corsair RM is not worth either it when you got both the Seasonic G in the same price range that is better

And the Be Quiet Dark Power Power which is even more silent as well as better

I would get a 4770k instead of that 4820k. Also I would get, the Maximus Hero for the mobo and sli 780 classified or lightnings. I would also play it safe on the power side and get a 1000w platinum Seasonic. For storage I would get a 250gb Samsung evo and a WD10EZEX for storage. Maybe jump on the cheap G.skill 8gb 2133mhz on sale on Newegg right now.

Seasonic Platinum 1000 watts has ripple twice as high as the lower wattage models

1000 watts is also overkill

Even if he needed 1000 watts there are better PSU´s out there

If you're looking for a 27"-30" monitor, look into some 1440p IPS monitors. Whether you decide to buy Korean or name brand, you can't go wrong with one of these

Here's my suggestion...

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1VlME

I wouldn't bother with the R9 290X until they come out with better coolers for them. They tend to throttle performance due to the high temps under stress. I think a GTX 780 would be a much better buy at this time. You can usually find them for less than the R9 290X on some websites, and that's with non reference coolers.

[Edit]

If you plan on adding a waterblock to your GPU(s), then a R9 290X may be a better choice than a GTX 780. This all greatly depends on your plans.
