New higher Tj.Max or just a bug? Also 5GHz @ stock voltage... lol :)

Got a new FX-8350 the other week and finally put it in today. One of the first things I noticed was an epic VID biggrin.gif This is the lowest leakage FX processor I have ever seen on the whole internet. Second thing I noticed, CoreTemp says the Tj. Max is 90c, when I know it is supposed to be 61c... I thought maybe it was my version of CoreTemp since it was v1.0rc5, so I went and download v1.0rc6 which just came out a few weeks ago. The new versions says my CPU has the same tj. max of 90 celsius. Could it be that the newest FX processors are not only more refined in their manufacture but they also have a higher max temp? Check out this pic, this is stock voltage btw. I havent tested higher on stock voltage yet but I could POST at 5.591GHz

EDIT: well, looks like it will mostly run Prime95 at 5GHz with stock voltage too. I say mostly cause a couple cores crash out, but the others keep running. Pretty great for stock voltage 5GHz clock speed on an 8350. Im actually typing this edit right now at this speed and voltage, so fairly stable smile.gif
EDIT 2: now stable at 5GHz with just a 0.025v bump. Will post back in the morning if Prime ran all night sucessfully at these settings.

So what do you all think about the max temp?
I also saw this guy who has a brand new FX-8350 and his says tj max of 90c as well when I know it used to report that as 61c for everyone.

Woke up this morning to find 2 of the 8 cores (both cores from the same module) had error-ed out after a few hours last night. So looks like this CPU needs a bump of probably .05v to be 5GHz stable.
Anyone have any ideas though on the thermal junction max temp on this new CPUs?

From CPU-World http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bulldozer/AMD-FX-Series%20FX-8350.html

"Safe CPU temperatures are 60 degrees Celsius and below. It may still run fine with CPU temperatures, exceeding 60C threshold by a few degrees. Running the FX-8350 close to 70 degrees and higher is not recommended."

What kind of temps are you seeing when running Prime95. (I cant see a think in the pics you posted)

OC.net likes to make uploaded pictures small to save space. You can click on them to enlarge a little bit.

After 7 hours of running Prime95 I get to a max temp of 49. It has an H100i and quad Gentle Typhone 2150rpm fans, using Liquid Ultra as TIM. So you think CoreTemp is just reporting wrong on the new CPUs coming out?

62c: AMD doesn't recommend you going over this temp
70c: chip starts to get damaged
80c: chip is getting damaged
90c: Thermal protection kicks in and the system shuts down.

Trust me, I have seen 90c before. I don't know what I did but I can compile huge projects like Libreoffice, run Prime95/IBT AVX, etc and never go past 70c but I was working on a project in Blender and when I went to render it flew past 90c in a matter of seconds. I accidentally made a power virus, lol.

Also your 4.6ghz voltage is just a click or two above what mine came stock for 4ghz.

You got yourself a real nice chip.
