I use a 54Mbps router an play Black ops 2 an any other game for that matter fine. in ops 2 now an ping is 34-70 max while chatting on skype. an i only have a 50Mb/5Mb Charter connection.

Well it all depends on how many people are on the Wireless.
Like they said CSMA/CD only allows one device to talk at the time.

With multiple devices there will be alot of devices usually waiting to a spot to talk/transmit data which can lead to congestion upping latency etc.
