Battlefield 4/Games that require tons of VRAM is the point (for me)

Even with 2 x 670FTW's i am stuck to 2x MSAA and bumping up to 4x MSAA uses a little more than 2GB of my VRAM and i run into stuttering gameplay. Move it down to 2x MSAA and my framerates are back to 70-80 on Ultra. using about a couple MB short of my maximum VRAM MB (2042MB)

Also, resolution scale only allows me to increase to 160% with no MSAA (as it eats up all my VRAM) , or 140% and 2x MSAA (i found to only use 1950MB of VRAM).

Anything more; ill run out of VRAM and run into stutters :/

I feel like if you own a card less than a 780; the 2GB VRAM really limits you (on BF4/other games that use tons of VRAM for high quality textures/AA)

Games don't use over 3gb of vram, they "save it" but they don't actually use it yet in this gen. It's all marketing, "you need 6gb!".

How much VRAM does a game like BF4 on ultra, 1440p, 4x MSAA actually use then?

Theres a graph earlier in this thread. With 3840/2160 is it about 2780 MB of usage. I do feel that if you are trying to future proof your system that 6GB is the safe bet, but people who are willing to spend 700 on a new card mid generation should be the same type who will want to buy Maxwell when it comes out in the next 6 months anyways, I don't see a huge point in thinking that far forward.

there really isnt such a thing as future proofing, the top of the line cards this gen are going to be mid way cards next gen, you could have 598438593gb of vram, but your card wont be the best because of it next gen. 880 is gonna dump on the 780ti and titan, no reason to grab 6gb of vram hoping that games next gen use it if you always upgrade to the best cards. only reason to grab a 6gb card is if you need it now.

By the time games use 4gb+ your card will have lost its performance anyways. How can people not get that.

Unless you're running multi-monitor...

I'm building my setup for 5x1, so VRAM isn't a non-issue in my case..

6GB I could easily see being done, it would shut the damn AMD fanboy's the hell up and take away yet another piece of the R9 290X thunder, which is what nVidia seems to be loving to do right now. 12GB, I just don't see being a reality for this generation. There is ZERO need for that for consumers (professionals, maybe, but not consumers) at this point in time. 4K monitors are nice at all at $3500 a pop, but no way you will need 12GB of memory until you start using 3+ 4K monitors. Eventually, maybe in the GTX 990Ti or beyond, sure, when 4K monitors fall below the $1000 mark, and especially when they hit the $500 mark, but not now ... not for awhile.
