Network HDD connection issue with xfinity

Thread Starter
I moved into a new place and went with xfinity triple play for the home phone. Now my old network was based of the tp-link router in my Sig with an external usb HDD for network shares over WiFi. The xfinity modem/ router/ WiFi ap/ ip phone connection box can do all that, but can not share my usb HDD. That should be a standard feature.

So, I connected my tplink to the Comcast box using port 1 to port 1. The tplink has dhcp server and WiFi radio turned off (can't turn off the WiFi radio on the Comcast box). Still not able to connect to my HDD with WiFi or wired. It tells me that it cannot find network resource check name or IP.

What are my options here because I don't want to run the shares with a pc thats on all day.

Best thought is to call Comcast many times until you get they 1 person that actually knows the equipment.

If your not ok with that example. I believe that they have 2 kinds of modem, the other should just be 1 Ethernet port and 1 phone jack (think its made by RCA). You could get one of those and just use your old setup same as before.
