Watercooled Lian Li PC-A05NB µATX - Retired

Greetings OCN,

I'm back with a second build, a contemporary minalist theme paired with silence will be the main objective. To achieve that, I've decided to go with the Lian Li PC-A05NB. Components will carry over from my previous Silverstone TJ08-E build until Haswell-E.

The main factor switching over from the TJ08-E is that the 180 fan on it is atrocious. To get any decent amount of air through the rad would require the fan set to atleast 70% which brings noise levels to an unacceptable db. This results in a hindered OC and poor game play experience. Also, with my current setup, the 120 rad does not allow for the video card to be used in the first PCE 16x slot so my sound card does not fit. Expanding to the slightly larger Lian Li case should fix both issues.

Link to previous build which will be retired - Silverstone TJ08-E

As said earlier, main components will be recycled from previous build and expanded upon where convenient. Watercooling gear is currently in transit and will be picked up next weekend, the build shall be started then!

Update -Grinding holes, spray painting, and picking up parts! smile.gif

Hey guys! Here's a quick update of today's progress. It pretty much consisted of driving across the Canadia border to get the parts (avoid duty charges), measuring, dremeling and painting, here's some pics!

First was measuring, the goal was to cut two intakes for the 240mm top radiator and an intake for the psu on the bottom.

Test fitting of the 240!

wink.gif

Drilled some more holes for the ddc pump heat sink, testing again to make sure it fits thumb.gif

After making sure the parts are all good to go, a few quick steps to garage and a can of plasti-dip for the poor mans paint job lol wink.gif
First layer of paint and this is the results.

Minor updates

My most awesomest back breaking, knee numbing, magic making, computer builder spot! Aka my bedroom floor tongue.gif

Ran into a little problem with the fans, the screw mounts have some extra housing around them causing my screws to not fit. Busted out the dremel and went to town!

Update - Maintenance inbound!

My hopeful goal of finishing this build during the weekend is nothing more but a shattered dream frown.gif This is the first time I tore down a loop for maintenance and boy does it take long! Tubes were all gunked up in plasticizer (lrt pro) and blocks that make my pomeranian's butt look clean ahaha. Didn't get as much done yesterday as I would hope to, but here's some pics, will carry on today where I left off last night.

Threw on some rubber u-channel for safety and aesthetics

Cut out the Acoustipack sound deaden foam

Some parts from the old rig taken out

Took apart the cpu block to find this masterpiece! Dropped it in some lemon juice for a soaking

I forgot the before pic of the gpu block but it was pretty much in the same condition as the cpu. Here's the after shot and pcb + mx4 paste

Moar progress wheee.gif

The best I could get the cpu, any more scrubbing and I would be onto toothbrush no. 3

Scrubbed all the blocks and ran a few cycles of distilled water, put in all the sound deadening and finally I'm able to put some parts in to design a tube run + a fan service shot of my ironing table leg wink.gif

So far I'm really pleased with how this build is coming long, learned a lot of do's and don'ts. Pro tip, be careful what you're rinsing out in the sink, I dropped my EVGA led badge on the video card down the drain. I thought I was SMRT and took the led out, but didn't know the badge comes off as well... Now I stuck a piece of electrical tape over it. Such an eye sore doh.gif
