Power supply buzzing LOUDLY under load

I came home from work and fired up battlefield 4 only to be treated to an incredibly loud buzzing noise while in game. After some careful listening around the case I'm 90% sure it's coming from my HX850, right under the plug socket. I've heard coil whine before and I've been looking around youtube to find something that sounds similar to what I'm hearing, but so far I've found nothing. At idle it's not so bad, barely audible over my case fans. The second I load anything (when playing bf4 or running prime95 for instance) it's terribly loud. So much so that I can hear it distinctly over the sound of any game or music I'm playing at normal volume. If it helps I can try to whip up a video of what's going on, but is this something that could immediately damage components?

Something that may or may not be related, and I'm guessing it is, but I've been having an issue with getting the system to POST consistently. It started months ago and I thought nothing of it because powering on and off 4 or 5 times sorts everything out.

I've got another corsair psu that I know works and I'm going to give it a shot later but I figured I'd pick some more knowledgeable brains than mine since I'm going to be at a family gathering for the next few hours.

Is it the old or new HX850 you got?

The old was from 2009 and the new is from 2012

I would RMA it or replace it if you dont want to bother with RMA

Loud noise or any kind of noise is not a good sign (beside the normal PSU noise)

I went and popped the side panel off to make sure I wasn't going crazy before I dropped cash on a new power supply, blew some compressed air around the motherboard and video card and snugged some connectors down (though nothing felt loose). When I went to start up again to listen for buzzing... there was none. Fired up a few games and ran prime95 for a few minutes. Still nothing. The panel's back on the case and I'm not hearing the buzzing. I am, however, still getting error lights for the cpu and ram when the system fails to POST occasionally.
