I dun goofed my z77 mobo!

New case, new tubing for watercooling, new bunch of stuff

I was extremely tired

Closing my window one of my micro heat sinks fell off the motherboards VRM
http://www.pelitawijaya.com/produk-image/heatsink-alu-chip-micro.jpg

So I figured, let me just put it back on without turning the pc off!
( YEAH I KNOW, WHAT WAS I THINKING!?, I WASN'T, I'M SO TIRED frown.gif )

Guess what, either a piece of the heatsink touched the motherboard or something because an electric spark flew out of my motherboard and PC turned off.

I yelled louder than a IED explosion. 5 seconds later the computer turned on.

I don't know if this was the motherboard+psu power surge protection or WHAT, I just know my motherboard took a huge shock today and I could of fried everything I own.

The motherboard is a GIGABYTE z77 UD3H . I am wondering if anyone knows of any tests I can do or anything to ensure everything is working okay without having my OC'd cpu catch on fire when I go food shopping and leave it on. I don't know if one of the vrm's is burnt out or what and I don't want to risk using this PC long enough to find out what will/could happen.

I also am curious for some tests that don't involve taking out cpu/ram/hd and all it's components as everything is heavily water cooled and it will take me more than multiple hours to drain and dismount my complicated loop frown.gif

I am desperate and clueless, what should I do. Is trying to RMA a working board that MIGHT be defective stupid or what is the best way to go about this.

All help and laughter of my touching motherboard with metal in my hand while it's on is welcome!

I don't think there's a hell of a lot you can do.. if it boots, it can't be too bad and if all looks fine in BIOS and say few tests I think you got away with a scare. But the fact it spit out sparks would concern me.. if the safety (PSU, Mobo) would've switched on, I'd have assumed it didn't get a chance to do sparks.

yes I am lucky but still scared. I don't know if this will become an issue down the road.

when I saw the sparks fly and the computer immediately turn off i lost it. when it turned on by itself I was still in shock but I turned it back off to calm the heck down rolleyes.gif

i was more this-is-my-angry-face.jpg than anything
