[H]AMD Radeon R9 290X CrossFire Video Card Review - Page 31

I dunno, Bluray was just better than HD-DVD in my opinion...
pretty sure bluray won cause of larger capacity and ps3 inclusion. Just like beta failed because vhs had a longer run time even tho beta supposedly had better pic quality

I thought it had something to do with a certain entertainment branch we should not discuss on these boards redface.gif

That might be the stupidest most embarrassing quote I've seen all day.
Seriously, good job on sounding like a pompous arrogant....donkey.

Just pity him. I find it sad if he can't enjoy a game without spending a lot. I have a 1680 * 1050 monitor and a GTX570 so I guess I should feel miserable sadsmiley.gif

lol that guy that said it's the lowest forum is wrong. I game on a gt640 and an i5. It's absolute rubbish but it will do for me until I finish compiling my research on 290x water cooling

By that time (if not actually before that), the 20nm "Maxwell" cards (aka GTX 880) will be out and it will be out, and the reality is, AMD is playing "catch up" on 20nm and card releases (heck, they have been playing catch up on 28nm for a long time).

As good as the 290X is, it is 8 months too late. There is no indication that there will be a "20nm 290x" in 6-9 months. Maybe in 9-12 months, but not 6-9. That is just too hopeful.

As far as Mantle being mature enough, well, while I like the notion of Mantle, it isn't going to be "all that", why? Because it only works on GCN cards (which means no nVidia ... which has 2/3rds of the cards out there, and doesn't even work on all AMD cards), and isn't going to be utilized on the vast majority of games. MAYBE it will be used on more and more future titles, but it's not like that game companies are going to go run out and recompile and redo all their past games that are ALREADY released and tens of millions of people are playing NOW ... for free. Further, unlike much of the initial hype said, Mantle will NOT be on consoles. It's a PC Only, new AMD card Only, new game Only API. It's impact is greatly overstated. I really hoped that it would be more ... like used on consoles AND that nVidia could use it (but it doesn't) because if it did those two things, then it would be use on the MAJORITY of the devices that people play on.

How can the R9 290x be 8 months too late, when BF4 just came out last week..?

He is making reference to comparing AMD's new cards to the Nvidia 7 series cards that have been out for a year... AMD sat on the 7970 for almost 2 years before releasing a new card, while Nvidia released multiple cards that wiped the floor with them.

The 290x should have come out around the time that the Titan and 780 were released. As it stands, by the time the 290x has been out a few months, Nvidia will be releasing next gen cards that will likely again be far ahead. Hence the 8 months too late thumb.gif

This is why Nvidia was able to charge crazy prices for 770's 780's and the Titan; ie lack of competition.

Same thing happened with BluRay and HD-DVD (if you aren't an old fart like me).

Same thing happened with the Tucker automobile.

Same thing .... well, you get the point.

You're an older guy??? Huh....
