Can you change the motor of a fan

Thread Starter
So, very simple question.

I have a 92mm fan that can go to around 4k rpm. Can I remove just the electric motor and install it in a 120mm fan?

Thanks

Deni

no. At least not unless it's a metal one, like, say, a bathroom fan. Computer fans are all cast plastic. there's no way to rebalance the fan and nothing will fit together.

Besides, a 4k rpm 120mm fan will sound like a buzz saw. It may even cavitate and rip itself apart. Fan design is all about fluid dynamics.

Here's a 120mm 4k rpm fan, made by delta, which is a power tool manufacturer. Notice the 56 db noise level. It will sound like, well, a power tool. http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/FFB1212EH/603-1434-ND/2560558?WT.mc_id=PLA_2560558

Why do you need this beast anyway?
