Thoughts?

Because it would not be profitable to make such tablets, because you can do the same things on your phone + calling and messaging.
Basically, if you have a smartphone, you have no need for such a tablet

I think tablets, by their very nature, are not pocket-friendly.

They do make smartphones that are that size. Couldn't you buy one off contract and then just not activate it? Would the phone refuse to operate at all until you got service or something?

That's basically a smartphone without the ability to make calls. Why not just get a smartphone?

As everyone said, this product does exist. It's called a smartphone.

You can buy them off contract for full price, which is what tablets would cost if they were that size. The part of the phone that handles the calling is worth less then $5.

only difference is how you scale your UI, my galaxy note is using a tablet UI so its a tablet

7" tablets fits in jeans pockets so if it cant fit it in your jeans then stop wearing skinny jeans or you need a wardrobe change

Tho whole purpose of a tablet is to be a more affordable, smaller, and less bulky laptop (mobile computer). Screen size is important depending on who you are, some of us prefer the smaller 7" tablets, meanwhile others prefer the larger 10" tablets. Tho anything under 7" is just simply way to small to be used in the same sense as a tablet (becomes smartphone territory). You would be best off buying a Nexus 5 and just using it like a tablet. It's roughly +$100 more than the Nexus 7 2013 tho it does have a 5" display.
