Why don't we have "tablet mice"?

Manufacturers will only make a nice handle that shoots a beam of some sort that signals the pad to get an input command.

Bonus: Wireless without lag.

Why? It's not really wireless, it's wired, but the contraption you hold is nothing but a stick that signals it, instantaneously.

edit: Bonus: It also charges the handle. But remember, it's not wireless lag, the actual input will go optically.

Certainly possible, but you could only use it with just one pad and i also think that it would be quite expensive to make a big area with some sort of light receptors, not to mention getting the lod to an acceptable amount, if it directs a laser beam straight down. Would say its just too impractical in the end.

Because it probably won't work well at all (if I'm picturing what you're describing correctly). Have you tried to use a graphics tablet before? It's the best solution for drawing and writing on a computer, but that's about all it's good for. Moving your hand farther away from the surface will just decrease accuracy.

There is something like this already out. Though, its an infrared camera that sits in front of you and reads your hands. There is gonna be lag from the infared, so it's not what you are after but it's still a cool idea. Like Kinect or something

I completely forget of the name of the product.

Optical Pen Mice and Tablet Inputs both already exist. I don't know if what you are imagining would work better than what we currently have. Specifically, the graphics tablets would work alot like what you suggest but don't need a laser in the pen. It is even somewhat possible to game with the tablets.
