Best motherboard/Intel processor for $200.00

Thread Starter
I recently created a thread in AMD forums about building a systemm but one pentium processor really caught my eyes for its overclockability and pricetag. It is the Pentium D 805. I've seen that people can overclock it to 3.6ghz on air. Also that fact that it is dual core, has a 1MB cache for each core, 64bit compatible, and only $93.00 on newegg.com!

I have $200.00 I can spend right now on a motherboard and a processor and I was looking for a decent motherboard to go with this to be able to overclock it to 3.6ghz. Is this possible with only $200.00? Thanks.

its not a good idea to get a sub 100 dollar mobo , its possible , but you wont get the best results. Expecially if your going to overclock your Pentium D to 3.6 GHz

but any ways
heres a list

Yeah, that is kind of what I figured:-\\. The one they used on toms hardware was like $200+ to get it to 3.6ghz with air cooling. THe last link you sent me looked pretty decent though. I guess I can live with 200-400mhz less to save over $100.00. Is it true that micro ATX boards like to break a lot more compared to ATX? I read that somewhere.

I do a little video encoding/decoding, a lot of cd/dvd burning/some ripping, Compress/decompress a lot of winrar files, some basic photoshop CS 8 stuff, and like to run virtual machines with VMware to test various things.

haha thanks anyways. I would love to get a hold of a core 2 duo but my budget is no where near that because I still have to get a motherboard, some decent memory for overclocking, probably a new PSU, and a good heatsink/fan. Also with the money I have right now I actually need to get a new hard drive first. Going to wait for the hard drive day after new years so I can get a really good deal. Of course I was going to put $200.00 towards the mobo/cpu only and spend more on the rest of the stuff.

Ah ok. When building a computer , its always a good idea to try and save money in other areas where you cannot . For example , when buying a CPU and mobo , its almost inevitable that you will pay the retail price and nothing cheaper. But with other things like Harddrives , theres so many of them that you are bound to find one on a site thats maybe 10-20 dollars cheaper , or w.o shipping and handling. So , yeah , get a harddrive , but look hard . My suggestion is this harddrive. Its real cheap , and has a decent size ( 160 GB)

http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16822144415

and its got S-ATA

As for the CPU + mobo :

heres the mobo im prolly going to get when i build my rig
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813128017

its $118 and its relatively a good board for overclocking and not bad of quality. And its been recommended to me on this forum as well.

that leave around 88 bucks for a CPU if you have exactly 200 dollars , i dont know weather or not you want to go over 200 by like maybe 10 or 20 but i think it would benifit you greatly.

thanks for the rep btw.

Hey, if you're near any Frys they sell e6300 and ECS P4M800PRO-M motherboard bundles for $170. The only thing then is the motherboard is crap... (agp video slot and 2x ddr400 or 2 x ddr2 533 ram slots).
edit- That biostar board is very nice, I had one... That would leave you enough money for a 805d, but the 820d is worth the few extra bucks.
