Looking to overclock AMD Phenom II x6 1055t

Thread Starter

I'm looking to OC my CPU, if possible. I don't really mind how high I can get it past its stock value, just looking to get a little more out of it.

I'm not sure exactly how to do it, however. I know how to get into my BIOs and where my options are at for this, just not what I should and shouldn't do. I understand that no one can just gives me values and that I have to do mess around with the settings myself until I find something that works w/o problems, but I think I'd feel safer with whatever help can be given.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5a7AxZJ7tWc

At first, I watched this and wrote down what he did to see if it would work for me. Well, it didn't. I was prompted with "overclocking failed" upon rebooting, so I switched back to default for now. That and his BIOs UI is different from mine (I guess his is older?), so I might have changed the value to something incorrectly.

So yeah, if I could get some assistance, that'd be awesome. Thanks!

If you need any more information about my computer or whatever, I'll try to answer the best I can.

edit: I know the thread title says 1055t, whereas CPU-Z says 1050t, but computer -> properties states 1055t. Not sure what the deal is here.

Can you start by posting your rig specs or complete the Rig Builder in your profile?

Here is some information that will be useful in your journey:
http://www.overclock.net/t/946407/amd-motherboards-vrm-info-database/0_20 - Check to see if you have a problem board
http://www.overclock.net/t/525113/phenom-ii-overclocking-guide/0_20
http://www.overclock.net/t/624908/official-the-amd-socket-am3-knowledge-base-information-thread/0_20

You can also google for something like "overclock settings for (your processor here)". Youll see examples of the multiplier/voltage settings that other people have had luck with. You can start below their settings and work your way up... slowly. You can also look for people that have a similar setup to you (mobo/cpu wise), start below their settings and work your way up.

Just remember to keep an eye on your temperatures. If you arent using the stock cooler or one that blows incidental air onto the VRM, then you may need to suplement that cooling.

Remember, you arent done until you are stable. That means hours (atleast 4 or more) of testing with a program like Prime95 without locking up, blue screening or dropping cores. Some people say 24hrs. I settled on 4.

Good Luck!

One thing I have learned is that when you are playing with voltages, make sure that your LLC (Load Line Calibration) is not set to something like "Extreme". It caused my vCore to jump to 1.6v under load, but putting it down to "Regular" settled it out at ~1.4v.

I have my Validation in my Sig and found a lot of good help Here - http://www.overclock.net/t/720738/phenom-ii-x6-10-t-oc-thread/0_100

Hope that helps. I also found that taking notes of where you had all your settings helps narrow down what needs changing in order to get stable, but thats me rolleyes.gif

I had a 1090T back in the day. I don't think you can adjust the multiplier on a 1055t?

Only up to 14, won't let you go past that unless you have the Black Edition.

So he basically has to loosen his memory timings and go from there. Depends heavily on the mobo quality too I think. IMO upgrade your cpu.

The Mobo has a very big part in it, my Sabertooth is great for OC potential but other boards may not fair so well.

Lol and IMO the Thuban is still a great CPU, I mean mine at 3.8Ghz is great so far, handles all my CPU heavy games like BF3 and 4, plus since I'm on AIO Water it sits at a rather cool temp too. There are obviously newer AM3+ CPU's out like the 8320's and 8350's that aren't to to expensive but those don't offer all that much over what you can push the Thuban to, if you want to of course tongue.gif

But like everything else, to each their own.

Some things to try:

-Make sure that Cool n' Quite is Off
-Turn Turbo Core Off
-Start with a small OC like 13.5 or 14 for a Multiplier and say 255 for a FSB Speed
-Set a Manual Voltage of 1.38 - 1.4v for CPU
-Set a Manual Voltage of 1.25 for NB Speed.
-I am guessing you have the newer UEFI BIOS, so for you NB and HT speeds, set those to 2200Mhz or so.
-RAM should be set to a level that isn't overclocking it, as that is another battle.

Again those are just suggestions as every CPU will be different, but these were the things I looked at so you may have some luck here too.
