HELP with NVIDIA OC stats...whats it all mean ?

Thread Starter
So since i have my new rig up and running id like to start to OC it.
sorry for all the questions but im really tottaly lost here

I used the NVIDIA control panel and ran the fine tunning app that takes aprox 3hrs to complete.

Once this finished it reported:

7% increase to the FSB (cpu bus) 267mhz - 287mhz
12% increase to the pci-e bus 3125mhz - 3525mhz

Before running the Nvidia control panel:
Temp cpu-36, system-36, GPU 63
cpuz reported this
and 3dmark06 was 8195

After running the control panel it reports: (screenshot)
this
and crystalcpuid reports this
3dmark06 is 7787
Temp cpu-38, system-34, GPU 63

This confusses me....why does the ram report back at only (400 MHz) when it is actually 1066 mhz ram ?

is there a better way to get more speeds?
Why did the 3dmark06 drop?

i would highly recommend not using ntune for overclocking or your gonna get stuck with crappy 7% overclocks. use the bios. your ram is in 1:1 memory divider . run it unlinked in bios and set it at specified speed, settings and voltage. matter of fact i would uninstall ntune and network access manager in control panel. i couldnt reach certain sites with network manager installed plus i was getting random reboots on my overclock due to device driver problems. uninstalled network manager and ntune and both problems went away instantly!!! uninstall these programs immediately they are fun killers. also set keep toying with your fsb and voltage for core. set spp and mcp to 1.5, your pci's to 100 and i believe mcp-spp to 250 (not for sure what it called but it starts at 200) raise it to 250. and would not recommend a core voltage over 1.5 unless you have excellent cooling. ALWAYS , ALWAYS make sure your idle-load temps do not exceed 60 degrees C. go get intel thermal analyzer TAT to stress and observe temps

Thanks abunch for the advice...i have un-installed both apps like you have said...i will play with the bios setting tommorow and let you know how it goes.

I downloaded tat
Idl temps are between 34-37

you still have a good ways to go before you reach your end in my opinion. your ram still has 150 mhz before you reach its rated speed. i would keep upping the fsb in small increments. your temps seem to be ok. its looking good otherwise though. im not a power person but im guessing 550 is a bit low considering graphics card. maybe someone else will comment with regards to this but i would think you might run into juice problems. nice ram, wish i had it lol. by the way are you running your ram in 1T or 2T mode? mine cant load for $hit in 1T mode-supertalent 800. i have read that 1T mode at 800 mhz is as good as 1050 2T or close. try running in 1T and see what you get and post 3d mark scores please.

actually i see your running in 2T with a 5:6 mem divider.

i would still run it in unlinked mode because with 5:6 mem divider they are not in synch. your RAM is running at 450 mhz while your fsb is 375mhz. IMO i would work up to 1600 fsb and ram at 800. if it posts and you can orthos in windows for 6-10 hours then your stable at that fsb then lower your timings drastically (try 3-3-3-10 or maybe 4-4-4-12 1T). that ram should really be able to rock n roll with much better timings take off of auto or optimal and put into expert and reduce your timings

ram = 450 x 2 (double data rate)= 900mhz
cpu/fsb = 375x4 (quad pumped)= 1500mhz unsynched

ram = 375 x 2 = 750
cpu/fsb = 375 x 4 = 1500 synched 1:1 mem divider

your ram is running faster than cpu is sending it info. keep them in line and lower timings as you will get better performance with lower timings

maybe you know all of this or not but i didnt and at first it took me awhile to understand the fsb-mem divider and how it worked. so im just trying to help if you dont know it

Thank you very much for the advice...its helping me big time...
Im still confused just what exactly im after when it comes to ram speeds.

Im happy with the new cpu stats....
64% overclocked now
Ran prime95 for over 10hrs and everything is nice and stable
3dmark06 is now at 11135
here is the screen shot..
what should i be doing to get better speeds out of the ram?

Your RAM should be ~

500+mhz
timings at ?-?-?-?-?....

not 397mhz or 400....

Put simply- try for the highest mhz and lowest timings for best results. Also, having your FSB match your RAM speed should be close to optimal performance. Good luck, from the sounds of it, you have a system that is way out of your league, I reccomend doing some reading first befors you F&^$ something up.

UPDATE

i used rivatuner to OC the 8800
from 576 900 to 618 975

however the core clock stays at 576 an will not go higher( am i out of power?)

3dmark06 is now at 11803

well i finnaly got the GPU up to 622/1000

Had to remove the rivatuner and use the nvidia ntune

3dmark06 is now up to 11853 and a steady stable OC using prime for 5 hrs
