I've had a makeshift test bench on a piece of mdf for over a year. I've wanted to do a scratch build, but time seems to be an issue with work and home. I found this case in the Market place and thought this would be the best of both worlds. A complete U2-UFO, an extension kit, and a 2nd front panel. Build the first one and then buy the needed parts and completely mod the solid aluminum panels for water cooling the second case.

Some of the new parts I'm going to be using:

I am waiting on some hardware and will start assembly soon!

While I'm waiting for some parts to really get this started, I've been trying to visualize where I'm going to place everything and how I'm going to mount it. I was hoping to use the a horizontal mounting for the mobo, but that doesn't look like it is going to work out. There simply isn't any room for the dual reservoirs. So vertical it will have to be. I will need to make cutouts to accommodate one of the rads in a half window panel for the standard case and make a bracket to mount the mobo vertically. Hopefully, I can get the case reconfigured after work this evening and take some measurements for brackets and component placement. Leaning towards a red, black, and silver theme. Any brackets or parts that need fabricated will be stainless steel. I may replace the HDD/Device bays with stainless and make some fan grills with it as well. Also, I'd feel a lot better with some sort of bracket to help support the PSU.

First attempt at stainless fan cover. More to come. Lots of ideas for different designs.

Unfortunately I've been quite busy at work and haven't gotten as much done as I would have liked to. I do have the 18x24 extended panels taped, layed out and ready to cut. Trying to fit my hobby in during down time at work has resulted in another design for a fan cover. I may end up going to 16ga. instead of 18ga. for added rigidity and cleaner cut. I've also been considering just designing and cutting some stainless steel 18x24 panels instead of modifying the ones I have. Time will tell. Regardless, these fan covers have been great practice utilizing arcs and trim in Autocad.

My XFX R9 290 should arrive tomorrow. Backplate comes to mind. biggrin.gif

Ok . Here's the prototype for the stainless steel extended side panels. 16ga. 304l stainless. Not sure what type of treatment I want to do. Polish or just hit it with med. or fine scotchbright wheel for some character. Probably try a couple things on this to see how it looks before the doing the actual panels I'm going to use.

I have the finished product designed with holes added to fasten acrylic windows. 2 mirrored side panels and a top with large window. Hopefully will be able to cut them within next couple days.

Sorry this is such slow going . I am approaching 21 days without a day off. Laser cut panels with cut acrylic windows. Still have to put finish on stainless and drill/tap hole to mount windows.

My EK waterblock for XFX 290 flashed to 290X should be here tomorrow. I also have to make a support for the mobo tray to allow installation of radiators on side panels.
Slow and steady wins the race. At least thats what I tell myself. tongue.gif

I've been so busy at work, I have literally no time to work on this. Wake, dress, drive to work, drive home eat, go to bed. One little tiny update. I've decided to go LGA 2011. I've ordered the Asus Rampage IV Black. Now to figure out which chip to throw in it!

Officially closing this to start a new build log. Essentially this started as a case upgrade build and now that I've gone and changed cpu, mobo, psu, gpu, ect. I'm considering what I'm going to be doing now, a new build. Finally settled on a name and will be continuing to modify this case with custom panels that are already made and need to be assembled. I will be adding a different back panel to accommidate 2 psu's. Only thing left Mountain Mods is going to be bottom and front panel. If you've been interested in this, look for my new build to pop up in the next week or so. After the holidays, I'm expecting to get things moving quickly.
