Game capture hardware for consoles?

Thread Starter
Alright, not sure if I should have put this in console gaming or not, but I am looking for some specialized hardware to use my PC as a monitor for my console gaming. I will also probably be doing some live streaming with this.

Anyways, not sure if the hardware exists for what I want just yet.

Ultimately, what I want is an input connection on my PC, for which I will have a window that can be moved, minimized, etc. This window will have my consoles audio/video so I can multitask much easier. I don't want to sacrifice much quality or latency doing this obviously. With this setup, I will not need multiple monitors, nor will I need to constantly switch video inputs on my current display.

If anyone has tried this, or knows which hardware I should look into, please let me know.

Maybe the Avermedia Live Gamer HD? I just don't know if it would support a lag free environment that you want or support every function you want. I own the Elgato Game Capture HD, but it has a three second lag in between the game and what appears on the computer.

Probably the Live Gamer HD with an HDMI switch or something to swap inputs?

You should be able to pull this off with most PVRs. Some are geared towards gaming specifically but I've never had any of the external units not be affected by latency. I'd go with a Hauppauge Colossus for this. It is not completely lag free but it is faster than anything else I have ever tried.

So, mostly speculation from everyone, only one seems to have real world experience in the setup I described. Would you say the latency is minimal enough to be used for competitive gaming?

Also i've seen the blackmagic intensity pro http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/intensity

Seems overall, I want to stay away from external devices and go with one internal

I actually do own the live gamer hd. Only I am using dual monitors. It's a pretty great card. The software it comes with is pretty easy to setup and use as well.

I tried the black magic intensity pro and it was not compatible with my motherboard. Those things are a bit touchy when it comes to compatibility.
