(old but reliable) can anyone here help me with my gtx 560 ti problems? [i apologize in advance for the long post]

i've been rocking this 3-year-old rig not (full specs should still be in my profile), i5-2500k 3.33ghz stock, 2x 560 ti in SLI, on a Asus p8z68-v mobo with 16 gb corsair ram..

ive been running win7 on in since i built it, but recently decided to ups to win 8.1.. everything was smooth, im glad asus had win 8.1 drivers for my 3-y.o.mobo soon after release so i installed all that..

ive only played a couple of games since i installed the OS - tomb raider and Deus ex directors cut.. Tomb raider was running very well on ultra settings (with minor tweaks), deus ex directors cut was troublesome.. i even tried testing the game with all the lowest settings i still get massive stuttering in-game, then i looked in to that games forums to find that most people are having this problem so i figured it was a coding problem and just needs a patch from the developers..

moving on, i decided to play a shooter.. MW3.. it was something i've been playing on the highest settings when i first built this machine with no problems ( and i just had a single 560 ti back then, tho ive upgraded soon to SLI and the game still played great) but since i reinstalled the game on my win 8.1 machine, ive been experiencing major frame rate dips often.. i do not know what is wrong so i decided to ask here for help..

few things i noticed was on afterburner, GPU 2 usage was almost at 100% most of the time (and not straying far off when fluctuating) while playing while GPU 1 usage was at a mere 40-50%..

i never took notice on thise before until now that im having problems with it..

so i guess here is my question.. (a few actually)

-should the two cards in SLI have the same usage when in graphically intense applications (e.g. games)? or the card where physx is assigned have a higher usage?

-can i somehow make my card use its processing power more (in other words, let the usage go to 90% or greater when in games)

(slightly unrelated question)

-with card prices so low, and black friday & boxing day (im from canada) sales coming soon im really tempted to get a new card or two.. what is the best single card i can use on my motherboard without bottle-necking on my aging CPU and mobo (pci-e 2.0)? (or i can reach the limit and bottle-neck the card, but not by much, i just dont want to overkill it and pay for performance im not even able to use)..

thanks for reading through, hope to get a helpful repsonse..

Any card will work on your mobo as long as it is a single card solution. PCI-E 3.0 x8 is PCI-E2.0 x16 in terms of bandwidth. I can't answer any of your other questions, though. =/ Sorry you're having problems.

can i use one of my old 560 ti as a dedicated physx card? or is that gonna lower the bandwidth on my first slot?

I would first see if the 560 ti's operate the same by themselves. There is a chance one 560 is failing on you.
