Low-Budget AMD Gaming rig, feedback appreciated!

Thread Starter
This holiday season as a family gift to my brother who is a huge Battlefield enthusiast, I'm building him a new gaming rig for BF4, as his current one is on the way out (HD 4670 and an Athlon II CPU).

I'm building this instead of getting a PS4, so I'm trying to make a decent gaming rig for not much more than $400.

Parts list:
- FX-6100
- ASUS M5A78 L-M LX3 mobo
- MSI HD 7850, factory overclocked
- Kingston 128GB SSD
- CX500 Power supply
Newegg SubTotal: $401.87

We will be re-using everything else (case, kb+mouse, speakers, monitor, old computer's hard disk for games). My question is how well does the FX-6100 or similar CPU's in that price range overclock, and how well do you think this will play BF4?

Even though the parts you have selected are not super power consuming parts, you might want to consider this thread by Shilka before finalizing on that PSU
http://www.overclock.net/t/1431436/why-you-should-not-buy-a-corsair-cx/0_20

As far as playing BF4, here is the benchmark for BF3. It should be able to play the games on the high preset just fine, but I'd shoot for medium settings with some settings turned on high to stay at that magical 60fps mark.

You should rip out one of the 830s in your rig, and put a 3570k processor in there. with the 7850 you should be able to get 30 fps + on bf4 on ultra minus the xAA .

High settings maybe 45+ fps. But other than that. It looks solid.

I have the same cpu and board as that build. I upgraded from an Athlon II X4 and noticed a vast improvement, especially in video rendering.
Your friend will be happy with that, but if he can spend more, go for the newer fx6300.

As for overclocking, both FX6100 and FX6300 can easily get to 4.5ghz,
but I dont suggest doing that with the 95w board you listed.

I think 4.2ghz should be safe for that, but any clock higher could possibly overheat the vrms.
There isnt any need to overclock anyway because an fx6100 at stock wont bottleneck an HD7850

I'd drop down to the CX430, Rosewill Green series (430, 500, or 630w). And I'd go up to the FX6300. Otherwise looks solid.

Time the purchase of things wisely and you should be able to sneak an FX-8320 into the mix. I expect it'll be available many times through the holiday shopping season for ~$140 either on promo or in a combo.

As for the PSU, I've used Corsair CX430's in many builds over the years and never had a single problem with them. I've got one CX430 that's going on 5yrs old, never had any problems, but I don't want to stick a 5yr old PSU in a new rig.

I'll look into a 6300 if it would be that much of an improvement, but I'm already over budget.

I looked at an i5 actually at first but they're just too expensive. There's no way to get an intel plus all the parts I need and stay within my $400 budget.

Most of my selection was based on newegg's customer rating. The Kingston SSD has 5 eggs with ~120 reviews and is cheaper than a samsung 840 of the same size. I love my SSD's too much to rip one out, lol having a dedicated games SSD is a beautiful thing when you can load skyrim +HD textures in 3 seconds.

Thanks for all the input, guys! I'll keep an eye out for discounts as the holidays draw closer.
