Guys, the term "bottleneck" is misleading. It simply means that that is the slowest component in your computer, NOT that it is making your computer slow! If I were to slap a 8800GTX into my current computer, I would see a dramatic increase in graphics performance. What I would NOT see, however, is an increase is CPU performance.

To break it down for you, the graphics card handles, well, graphics effects. Graphics effects include dealing with textures, handling AA effects, etc. When you are playing CSS and the bomb goes off and your FPS drops, thats your graphics card. However, there is also stuff that the CPU handles. For example, when you are playing WoW and you hearthstone somewhere, the lag that you see right before you teleport is CPU lag while the CPU loads the new location data.

Basicly, the point I am trying to make is, dont get all bent up over bottlenecks. Figure out what your current bottleneck is, and upgrade it. If its your graphics card, upgrade that, if its your CPU, upgrade that, etc.

A lot of people talk about the bottleneck but HONESTLY you don't even feel it. I run games at 1440x900 with everything on high. I do not feel like my processor is slowing me down. All the games run just fine

DirectX 10 is rumored to completely get rid of the CPU bottlenecking problem.

So the higher settings on your video card, the lowest bottleneck? I am concerned by the bottleneck of my P4 lol. Ya, I've heard that Direct X 10 will allow GPU to use more system memory... and somehow relieving the bottleneck.

EDIT: The Bartender Paradox; An X2 would bottleneck a 8800 alot more than a C2D.
Contrary to popular belief, a c2d is only about 10% faster than an X2 in most applications. Not even that. The reason C2d is perceived as being Uber dominating is because if SuperPI's addiction to huge amounts of cache.

Here and Here
In this case an FX-62 outperforms a X6800 by a small margin using an 8800GTX.

^ lol. ok here's another question.

how much watts does ur PSU need to have? some people are claiming 700 to be safe...thats a bit nuts to me, wouldn't a OCZ gameXtreme 600 W do the job? assuming it's put in my setup, might add a sound card later for the fun of it(I hear it can increase FPS)

yes it would for sure, though I have the 700 W one, it's outstanding, only problem: cables are a mess

Look @ my rig...

Sound cards increasing FPS is a joke. Maybe 1-5 FPS if any at all. FPS is mostly GPU.
