Sound Card's can increase FPS by not using a software mode and it does less strain on everything else.

Even a Value sound card like the SB Live! 24bit would let (users with lower end CPU's) get more fps and (people with higher end CPU's and lower ones) EAX Advanced HD with 0% CPU usage

Here and Here
In this case an FX-62 outperforms a X6800 by a small margin using an 8800GTX.
The second link you posted actually says the 8800gtx was bottlenecked by the A64's. It says that even with an A64 5000+ the gtx was "cpu bound"

These are from your second article:

Quote:
Those of you with AMD CPUs who were planning on upgrading to GeForce 8800 will want to look over our performance results on the preceding pages carefully, especially if you planned on upgrading to the GeForce 8800 GTX. In many cases you’ll find that the GeForce 8800 GTX is so powerful that it is CPU-bound with AMD’s flagship FX-62 in games like Quake 4, and Source engine games like Dark Messiah and Half-Life 2 Lost Coast.
Quote:
If you were thinking about upgrading to a GeForce 8800 GTS, you won’t need to hit speeds quite as high; 2.4GHz or more is a good starting point you should shoot for when overclocking. But if you were planning on picking up a GeForce 8800 GTX, our 2.6GHz 5000+ was CPU bound in some cases, so you’ll probably want to shoot for even higher speeds.

You gotta watch out though, some soundcards without built in DSP can actually increase your CPU usage and decrease FPS. Sortof like PhysX Increases quality, but also decreases performance.

Also, about the 8 series. If you have the money and pretty much any decent dual core CPU, get the GTX. If you don't like how your system runs after DX10 is out, upgrade the CPU, it's that easy. I don't really give a hoot about bottlenecks. As long as my system is able to run games well I'm happy. Note the bottleneck of my system... Only 1 GB of RAM.

from that second link...it shows the 8800GTX is 2 times as powerful as ATi's flagship x1950xtx, very impressive, now I'm even more tempted to get a 8800 GTX, the only thing is my case will not fit a GTX, it bearly fits a GTS, can I remove the HD cage? and also....the x2 5000(AM2) runs at 2.6 GHz and thats holding back the card, how fast would you need the CPU to not hold it back as much? 3.0 Ghz?

There will always be a bottleneck but hey I'd say at 3.0Ghz, you're doing good. Going OCed C2D would be best for gaming at the moment though.

1.People claim that you need C2D for G80, that can't be true can it?
2.How fast does a X2 have to run in order to compensate for the bottleneck?
3. Would you tap that?
1. NO.
2. Doesnt matter, its like running your CPU faster than your ram on a divider.
3. I would tap what? =/

I'm just saying that doesn't give u much room for anything...unless it's just for gaming.
