Just ordered an EVGA GTX 780 Classified - what voltage/clock speeds to try?

Thread Starter
I just took the plunge as I got sick of bad Battlefield 4 performance and ordered an EVGA GTX 780 Classified and a 16GB kit of Patriot Viper Black Mamba Gen. 3 DDR3-2133MHz RAM. Given the price drop and the fact that I pay no VAT in Gibraltar, it was a great price overall. I'm just wondering now how to get the most out of the graphics card.

What is the default voltage on these cards? On this voltage, what have people got the cards up to in terms of clock speeds (without extra voltage)? What would be deemed good clock speeds to be on that do not push the boundaries and therefore require extensive testing and that go above and beyond the card's stock capabilities? I know every card is different but an indicator of what to aim for would be fantastic. Thanks very much! smile.gif

The Classy has monster power delivery components so you can over volt with confidence. I use 1.325V for benching on my reference Titans so the Classy is fine at at least that voltage IMO so long as you keep it cool enough...

Let me see if I understand the procedure correctly:

1. Set the card to use the secondary BIOS so that the power limit is 115% instead of 110%.
2. On EVGA PrecisionX, set the limits for power and temperature to the highest (115% and 94°C).
3. Set the highest voltage possible in EVGA PrecisionX.
4. Increase the clock speeds as much as possible and monitor while benchmarking so that you never reach the stipulated power or temperature limits (which cause throttling). Testing with benchmarks here also tests overclock stability.

By the sounds of it that would take care of getting more out of the card. However, the Classified.exe tool can be used to overvoltage beyond NVIDIA's limits and allow for higher clock speeds AS LONG AS the power and temperature limits still aren't reached.

Am I correct in this? smile.gif

That's the way I did things. Even with the beefy cooler of the classified once I was getting above the reference 1.212V things get toasty in a hurry. I start artifacting once temps were above 73C even with proper voltage. Consider flashing one of the skyn3t BIOS too if you hit a power limit wall.

Well to be honest, I'm not too bothered whether I reach 1250MHz or 1300MHz. I'll use EVGA PrecisionX to get as far up as possible in voltage (within NVIDIA limits) and then as far up in clock speeds as possible to maintain power and temperature limits. That'll be it for me. I don't fancy spending a whole day testing overclocks anyway! smile.gif
Thanks for the verification!

Just overclocked this card today. I set EVGA PrecisionX to +63mV on voltage boost (maximum allowed) and the voltage reading is 1.200V. The GPU reached 1215MHz and the memory reached 6696MHz. This is completely stable as tested on Unigine Heaven and Valley plus numerous hours on Battlefield 4.

The thing is though, the maximum temperature I reach seems to be around 61°C and my power limit is about 80% at peak. I still have a lot of room to play with. Should I use EVGA's Classified tool to over-voltage beyond PrecisionX's limit?
