This is just a theory but would Down-sampling cure "Jaggies" or am I not helping?

It helps. You can do a few things. Use the resolution scaling option in the in game video options, standard downsampling via resolution change, and use nvidia inpector/AMD equivalent and select supersampling. Issue is these are all resource intensive so ymmv. I don't have enough vram gpu grunt to run it the way I'd like to.

Was it the same deal in BF3 iyo? I always just assumed AO on was better in terms of IQ.

And yeah thinner lines like fences and antennas as well as distance views in general always need more AA to appear smooth in modern BF games even at 1440P.

Ambient Occlusion is overused / overdone in a ton of games. SSAO in Battlefield 3 didn't look as "floaty" to me compared to HBAO. HBAO did seem to cover more areas than SSAO did but the effect is too strong. I took a few images from STALKER COP and I'll attach them to this post in a bit for comparison. I don't have BF3 installed anymore to compare the settings in that.
