post #1 of 3
Thread Starter
I have two options:
Fractal Design Core 3000
or
Cooler Master N500
Thanks in advance!

I liked the coolermaster more, but I think it comes down to preference.

Fractal Design Core 3000 USB 3.0 is pretty good. It comes with 3 silent series R2 fans (fluid dynamic) that spin up to 1000RPM for 140mm and 1200rpm for 120mm.

It has 7 fan mounts:
1 - 120mm + 1 - 140mm in front
2 - 120/140mm in top
1 - 120mm in bottom
1 - 120mm in rear
1 - 120/140mm in side panel

* 160mm CPU coolers , 420mm GPUs, vented PCI-e slots
* dust filter on front and PSU , none for top and side

It has a solid drive cage compared to Coolermaster's , more USB ports (2 USB 2.0 on front in addition to 2 USB 3.0).

Coolermaster N500 is barely reviewed. There's FOUR versions though (KKN1, KKN2, KWN1, KWN2) and the stock fans are crappy sleeve bearing Sickleflows.

The N500 only fits:
dual 120mm in front or 1 140mm in front
120mm bottom
dual 120m or dual 140 up top, or 240 rad
120mm HDD (pull)
dual 120mm side (if KKN2 version of the N500)
120mm rear

* 162mm CPU coolers , 405mm GPUs,
* filter for PSU and top , none for the side
* weird power button placement on middle of front bezel

The N500 has 3 5.35" bays instead of 2 , SSD cage inside.

In a nutshell:

If you're going to be using a CLC 240 radiator you're probably going to opt for the N500 and swap the fans + PCI-e slot covers. The N500 is a stronger offering if you are using SSDs due to the SSD cage also but if you get the KKN1 or KWN1 you'll be shortchanging yourself 1 USB 3.0 port.

Once you add the cost of fans you're better off with an Arc Midi R2 or something like that ($82.50 til November 10 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811352031) . Both of the cases you mentioned lack filters for side/top (easily $30 worth) and grommets plus the Arc Midi R2 handles 170mm CPU coolers due to the wider case which happens to use a 140mm rear fan mount.
