What type of Intel cpu can I use

I recently purchased a asus maximus formula motherboard and i need help determining the kind of cpu, was wondering if I could use intel core i5-650

You need to tell us which version of the formula you have. Is it the II, III, IV, V, VI?

Just maximus formula it uses ddr2 ram i think it's like the first formula. Here is a link to how the motherboard is http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/MAXIMUS_FORMULA. So am kind of confused on what cpu to use if any intel core i cpu will work

That thing is old school. No i series processors will work in it. Core 2 series will though. It has a 775 socket and you need a cpu to match.

Check ebay/ the marketplace. Best bets would be something like a e8000 series (like lga775 e8400) for a dual core or lga775 q6600 / q9550 for a quad core.

The quad core will give your closer performance to the i5-650.

That motherboard has a good chance to be able to take a lga771 with a little modding which could net you a great cpu for that motherboard on the cheap.
