You should expect much clearer and better sound quality. Probably best to get yourself some really good headphones with it to benefit from the x-fi

It's possible no one has had experience with this piece. But, if xreative did the same as they did with their desktop x-fi products, it should be an outstanding upgrade and experience for both you and your laptop!

This looks like an amped up Radio Shack ripoff of the vinyl amplifier I got. Not bad, for what it's worth, but why go out of your way for a converter like that? Get a great set of headphones, look for a good codec program and just go it like that. If that isn't satisfactory, pummel your budget buying that thing.

It doesn't have the X-Fi chip in it (The CA20K1 Audio Chip - Interestingly the Extreme Audio doesn't have this chip [Not the older Xtreme Music], and this chip is needed for EAX5 [Thus also 'Ultra Mode' in BF2/2142]). Therefore, isn't technically an X-Fi as such, and won't increase FPS in games. Windows does the actual sound rendering [via CPU], thus it has no 2D/3D buffers, or EAX... So you'll basically be running on board sound, with added 'sparkle'.
Simply put, it's just a USB DSP [digital signal processing] chip sound device, like a headset.
If you have a PCMCIA slot, I'd reccomend the Audigy 2zs for notebooks, which is hardware, and has EAX4 I believe. If not, the Xmod will serve you ok for added 'sparkle'.

I'd go with anything of the brand Shure, Sennheiser, Ultimate Ears, Sony, Bose, or Pioneer in the area of noise canceling, studio style, or urban "iPod"-based headphones with good tone, mids, treble, bass, and duration. That's a wide market, friend. Find one budget friendly, and roll with the punches. Soon enough, you'll find the one that fits.

I would only go with the ones in bold and ignore the rest. The headphones you choose depends on your budget, what music you listen to (or if you game), and build preference (open/close, in ear/around ear, etc.). If you give more detail about what you're looking for in headphones, then we can recommend a pair that will fits your needs
