mantle so far is only on the frostbite engine. How many mmos use the frostbite engine? i think youre trying to make it sound better than it really is because you just want to go amd, which is fine, if you really want to, go for it, they arent awful like some people say. But trying to justify it by saying multi cores and mantle will be in mmos soon is setting yourself up for dissapointment.

Once boiler place code of using multi core becomes easily available or managed by the OS, we'll see many developers using it.

and do you expect that to happen before next gen cards come out? or even before these cards start slowing down to unbearable paces in games?

Thread Starter
i'm only gaming on 1080p....27" monitor is more than enough for me.

i just want to be able to play upcoming games/MMO's at 60+ fps on max settings.

i just thought with the shockwaves being sent out through the pc gaming world with mantle and multi-core optimizations that it would be a good time to shift my gaming rig into AMD land.

NV were selling 580 with 1.5GB. It wasn't enough 1 year after. 680 has 2GB, isn't enough. 3GB will not be enough in a year or so in some games. Don't know what you try to defend here, that 3GB is better that 4GB or that it doesn't matter. It's nonsense.

will see first mantle results in a month or 2 with BF4. I believe it will be good, but better to wait and see.

Intel processors always seem to run better in MMO's then a AMD processor, i think because of a higher IPC

This.

In the MMO world, FAST single or 2 cores is all you need. You don't need 8 cores (or even 4 cores with hyper threading). I can't think of a single MMO out there that even comes close to maxing out 4 cores, much less 8 cores/hyper threads.

at 1080p, a 780 or 290x will be more than enough for mmos for a long time, obviously an intel cpu would be best, because for now, we dont really have an idea when multi core will become mainstream, but i doubt it will be any time soon. Mantle most likely will not make its way to MMO's for a while as well.

so 780/290x, whichever is the better deal, which right now is the 780 because you get free games with it. and its already cheaper by $50. but amd might drop the price on the 290x if the 780ti beats it.

Why would anyone build a computer, designed around a hypothetical MMO that hasn't even been made yet? It could be 5 years before we see an MMO running with good parallel compute support, at which time anything you have built today will be rubbish to run that game anyway.
