Touchpad going bad?

Wife has an Acer Aspire 5733Z with an Elan touchpad mouse.

A couple of weeks ago, the power adapter went bad and couldn't use the laptop. The battery went all the way down to 0, as we didn't catch it until then. It worked flawlessly up to that point.

Fast forward to today. We got the power adapter yesterday, but didn't test it until this morning.

Wife calls me over stating the mouse is not working. I go over and look at it, sure enough, it's not functioning properly.

The simplest of movements results in art by Michael J Fox. Bad joke, I know, but hey! He has a sitcom poking fun at himself. biggrin.gif

So, I check the background apps, nothing is utilizing the CPU more than it should. Interesting. Go into MSCONFIG and disable apps that shouldn't be there.

Restart, no go.

Ok, disable and reenable. No go.

Grab an extra mouse, uninstall and reinstall using device manager. Nothing.

Tell the wife that she has to use external mouse until I do more poking around.

So... any ideas? I'm thinking the touchpad itself is gone, but I'm optimistic.
